Although the number of coronavirus cases in the affected countries has skyrocketed, there is also an increasing number of people who recover from it. Recently, First Lady Melania Trump checked in on Canada’s First Lady, Sophie Gregoire Trudeau after she recovered from COVID19.
The Hill reports that Melania spoke with Sophie over the phone on Thursday. The First Lady sent her well-wishes when she checked in on Mrs. Trudeau, who tested positive for the coronavirus a few weeks ago on March 12th and has fully recovered over the previous weekend. Her husband, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and their children did not show any symptoms of the virus, and self-isolated.
During the phone call, Melania also reaffirmed the positive relationship between the two countries, as well as the respective responses to the coronavirus. President Donald Trump previously announced the agreement made between the United States and Canada to restrict non-essential travel across the border to slow down the spread of the pandemic. These travel restrictions were also mentioned in the phone call between the two first ladies.
Meanwhile, despite the main focus of the country is solely on the coronavirus, Melania took to social media to remind her followers about Military Child Month. She shared a photo of herself with children and teenagers on her Instagram, writing in the caption, “As our nation comes together in the fight against #COVIDO19, I ask that you take time to recognize #MilitaryChildMonth. I am always inspired by the strength and resiliency of military children!”
The First Lady is known for actively supporting the military and the families of those in the military. Melania is often spotted attending military-related events at the bases and became the first First Lady to travel to the military bases in a V-22 Osprey back in 2018.
Melania has also made efforts to make her presence known on social media and through video messages, encouraging Americans to stay safe and healthy. She has also given her suggestions on activities such as keeping in touch with loved ones who are most at risk through Facetime or other digital means, as well as viewing tourist attractions like the cherry blossoms in Washington in real-time online as well.
