Joe Biden maintains a sizable lead against Donald Trump in the polls and the Democratic candidate is making the most out of the final days of the campaign. The Biden campaign recently announced that the former vice president has pledged to reunite the hundreds of children that were detained at the border with their parents.
In a campaign ad that is airing in the swing states, a Biden campaign official revealed that one of his first acts as president should he win the elections is to reunite the 545 immigrant children with their families. The digital advertisement is airing in the states of Nevada, Arizona, Florida, Pennsylvania, and North Carolina.
“On his first day as President, Joe Biden will issue an executive order creating a federal task force to reunite these children with their parents,” said the narration in the advertisement.
This pledge also comes as Biden hopes to get the votes of Latinos days before the elections on November 3. Biden will be in Florida on Thursday while vice-presidential candidate Kamala Harris campaigned in Arizona and Nevada. Harris will be traveling to Rio Grande Valley in Texas to campaign which is known to have a big Latino population.
This pledge also comes as lawyers revealed that they have been unsuccessful in finding the parents of the 545 immigrant children that were detained at the southern border by officials from 2017 and 2018. Biden also blasted Trump for the separation during the second and final debate, calling the move “criminal.”
Countries all over the world are also monitoring the US elections closely, in an effort to prepare for a possible Biden administration or for the return of the Trump administration. European officials have now weighed in on the presidential race, hoping that tensions between the United States and European Union would ease after the elections. Some EU officials have hope that tensions would improve slightly in a Biden administration.
One official in particular, who has chosen to stay anonymous, said that Biden would be more “conventional” in approaching diplomatic relations between the US and the EU. The official also added that it would be through diplomatic statements rather than the use of social media, as Trump is known to do on Twitter.
